Identify and explain 5 reasons why you chose to study on this programme:
- The course is suited to me, everything that is covered and taught is everything i want to learn, that course is linked in well with industry which i liked and thought was very good because i can get out into design practises. The course tutors were very friendly and all have been/ are designers which i think is a good factor.
-The facilities that the college have are excellent
-The workshops; screen printing, wood work etc are well equipped and you can go use them whenever you want and how you want.
-The studio space is very big
-The course size is quite small, i liked this because it meant i will get to know the other people alot better, the tutors will get to know us better and the relationship between everyone will be good. With a smaller group you can bounce ideas off people and learn new things too.
Identify and explain 5 things that you want to learn during your time on the programme.
- I want to learn the adobe suite well, so i know the majority of things you can do it, this will make my design work alot better as i can use new techniques etc
-Learn things in the workshops; i have done abit of screen printing and letter press at college which i loved both techniques, especially the letter press, i like all the old techniques in graphic design, i think its a good base for a design. So learning this to a better standard would be good for my work
-Push my designs; Not to be so safe when i'm designing, at the minute i do alot of work which i know i can do and what i know i can do well, i want to learn new things/techniques to make my designs better and unique.
-Industry standards - i want to go out into design practises and see the work they produce, to what standard its at and the techniques they use to produce their design work.
- Identify the type of designer that i want to be, i know right now i am interesting in type, old techniques; letter press and screen printing and layout. But i want to explore other areas to see how i feel about them and if i take to them well. Experimenting new things will help me decide the area i want to specialise in.
Identify and explain 5 skills that you think are your strengths.
- Photoshop and Indesign, these programs are the two that i have used the most in my college work, i feel like i know alot about these two programs and i am confident in using them both well. I did use illustrator and i know a fair bit on it, but not as much as the other two
-Working with typography - in my last year of college i based alot of my projects around typography and i have learnt alot about it, i still have more to learn about, but i think it is one of my strengths.
-I am a perfectionist with everything, this does work in favour at most of the times but when doing work it does take me alot longer because i want everything to be perfect, but it does mean that my final outcome of work is to a high standard.
- Editorial design work
- Concepts and ideas
Identify and explain 5 things that you want to improve.
-I want to improve on my general knowledge of design, the history of design etc. I think this would help me understand how we have got to the design work of today and appreciate it more.
-Screen printing and letterpress - in my last year of college i started to use these techniques and found that i liked the effect of it, i would like to experiment with it alot more and learn about it more.
-Improve knowledge on the adobe suite
-Working within a group - i prefer to work on my own and find it alot easier, but i know that getting a job in design means that you need to work in a group, so i want to get better at doing this.
- More of the theory side to graphic design
Identify and explain 5 ways that you will evaluate your progress.
- By using my blog - i will evaluate my work throughout using my blog, when i upload posts about the work i have i done or showing the work i have done, i will evaluate as i go along
-By doing an overall evaluation at the end of every project.
-Using the group crits - if people like and understand my work then i know that i am doing something which people think looks/is good and i know i am doing the right thing
- Feedback from tutors
- Looking back over the projects throughout the year i can see how much i am improving.
