OUGD502 // Life's a Pitch // Review

I think as a group our creative ideas weren't all together in the same place, each of us wanted to try and do something different every time and we always had to come to some agreement / compromise to make everyone happy.

The ideas which we were creating and thinking of doing were good and i liked them, but we never followed them through, this is could of been because of the amount of other work we had to do and the fact that not everyone kept turning up and being part of the group when we needed everyone there to do things.

The tasks we were set to do as a group were always rushed and left to the last minute, but again this was because when we planned to do them people didn't turn up or wanted to do other work instead, it was as though this creative group was at the back of things and not important.

I think if we had the time and everyone wanted to actually do the work for it, we could create some good work, which was of a high standard and challenge other creatives out there. We had the plans to enter competitions and do work within the uni for other courses etc but the time contraints of these would jeopardise the other modules within the course and we all felt they were more important to do.

As a group itself we all got along, we all had something different to bring to the group and if we had of sat down and started to produce work as a group i believe it would have been up with the high standards, because it would have been something different and quirky because of the talents within the group. I think this was the trouble, we didn't actually do any design work or was told to set ourselves design work / briefs, so it all seemed a little confusing in the point of it.

When it came to the presentation, we were again let down by people not turning up, the presentation itself didn't look great because it was only done by two people, instead of everyone chipping in and helping out, i think the result of this and the feedback we were given was true and showed in the presentation.

We focussed on the promotion and how we brand ourselves as a company / creative and i think this took over what we were meant to be doing. We had the business ideas and how it would run as a company within the presentation, but this sort of took a back seat compared to the amount of time spend on the promotion and branding of the company, again i think this is because we wanted to design and being the design element into the brief instead of it all being about the business side of things.

It was a good experience working in the group and being apart of a group, i would say that it didnt go that well, but there were opportunities that could have made it go well if we acted on them and didnt sit back about it all. It has shown me that when im thinking about where i want to work or who to work with that it is very important and a long process that i should take to make sure it is right for me and for the business i would be entering.

The same goes for looking for experience or for a job when i finish uni, i know that i like to work within a group, but this has shown a smaller group is better for me as i can my view over and be more involved within the processes, it also seems more of a group effort and everything is split more evenly. But the companies i look at need to be right for me, i need to be able to relate to the practice of the company and be able to join in but also add something to it, it needs to have ambition for myself. If i can find this within a company then i know i will get along with everyone and make a success of it.

In many ways this group work has been a success for us individually, but as a group we decided that after the brief we wouldn't carry it on, because it wasn't working for us. The experience was good though and i've learnt a lot from it.
